R.V.Burgess Park is located right in the middle of the Thorncliffe Park Housing Development. That development was built in the early 1970's, for 12,000 people. 30,000 people live there now, many of them newcomers. The area is rich in children. The primary school right beside the park may be the largest primary school in North America -- it has over 2000 students between kindergarten and Grade 6. The schoolyard is filled with portable classrooms.
The play structure in R.V.Burgess Park was removed in 2002 and never replaced. Here is a picture gallery of what's there now.
History: In 1999, the City of Toronto conducted an inspection of every playground in city parks, and created a file on the inspectors' recommendations. Here are the photos they took of R.V.Burgess Park. The photos are linked to the recommendations.
