Hello Michael, Scott and Antonio: A group of residents who are avid rink users would like to meet with Councillor Fletcher and Rec staff to discuss capital improvements to the Greenwood park rink. Are you available on Wed October 6 at 4:30 to meet at Greenwood park?
Please advise.
Dear Wendy,
Thank you for offering to organize a meeting with Councillor Fletcher during this busy pre-election time. Unfortunately, it's not possible for me or my fellow rink users to convene at 4:30pm on a weekday. We're hoping that there will be greater flexibility following the election to meet after 7pm or on a weekend.
In the meantime, I'm requesting clarity on the following items:
1) Are Greenwood Park's rink and the adjacent building scheduled to be rebuilt/renovated within the next couple of years? (There have been rumours that the project may not proceed.)
2) The former project lead, Doodnauth, provided Antonio with the following timelines for the project: Design Aug 2010-March 2011. Construction mid 2011-mid 2012. Are these timelines still in place?
3) Who is the current lead person for this project since Doodnauth transferred departments in the summer?
4) Has the RFP for the project gone out? Has a consultant been hired?
Above all, we're excited about this project's potential for transforming Greenwood's rink into a true community hub for users of all ages and their families.
I have cc'd this email to some of the rink users who are interested in learning more about the project and providing input.
Thanks in advance for addressing this query.
Hello
Parks Forestry and Recreation (PF&R) have a planned state of good repair for the Greenwood outdoor ice rink and the change rooms in the main building. PF&R has made a recommendation to our purchasing Department to retain a consultant, but as of today the purchase order has not been issued, therefore I am not allowed to announce the firms name at this time. The firm we are recommending has done work for PF&R in the past and they have always proven to be very cooperative.
PF&R is looking to be in the market in February 2011 with a construction tender package, with award in April and a construction start in May.
PF&R has put before submitted a request for state of good repair funds in the amount of $1,990,000 for the state of good repair work and another budget of $500,000 in 2012 for a new roof structure to put over the ice rink. The intentions is to have a open air structure (no walls) that will keep the sunlight and rains off the main rink, hopefully this will provide for a much better use of the facility with less down time as a result of inclement weather, the roof structure is not intended to go over the pleasure skating area.
As many of you are already know Doothnauth has moved up the ladder and is now a design Engineer with the Cities, Technical Services Division. Martin Balgavy has taken over the Greenwood project, Martin is a professional Engineer and his phone number is 416 392-8409
We look forward to working with everyone in the near future.

Hello,
Is there any update the Capital Improvement plans for Greenwood Park's rink and changehouse? Has a consultant been hired? Does the plan involve levelling the existing change house building for a total rebuild? If the project is still on the books, community members would love to know a timeline for consultation.
Dear all,
The current plans for the Greenwood Park involve redesign of the interior spaces in the change house, based on and programs and community needs. The exterior work involves modifications to the existing rinks and skating surfaces, and addition of new skating path. The consultant for Greenwood Park has been hired, and has started investigative work on site. We are currently working with the councillor's office to schedule a stakeholder's meeting before any significant design starts taking place.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or need further information.
Regards,
Martin Balgavy
Sr. Project Coordinator
Dear Martin,
Thank you for your update. FROG (Friends of Greenwood Park) is a growing group of engaged park users. We'd like to keep the broader community updated on the progress of these plans via our email list and on-line forum (currently www.greenwood.parkcommons.ca). The councillor's office may contact me directly when a stakeholder's meeting is being organized. Because the park lies so close to the boundary for ward 32, we're hoping that you'll invite Mary-Margaret McMahon to solicit input from her constituents.
In the meantime, I have a few questions:
1) Roughly when can stakeholders expect consultation? I was initially informed by Doodnauth Sharma that the design element would occur in August?
2) Is the roof over the hockey pad still part of the plan?
3) What is meant by a 'new skating path' and where would it be?
Thanks in advance.
