Parkette Maintenance

One of the reasons friends of the parkette have banded together to care for it is that it is has some serious maintenance issues. If you have observations or questions about parkette maintenance such as the one below, please let us know, and we will try to deal with it or notify the appropriate authorities.

The sofa pictured above (dumped on Saturday November 4th) was promptly removed by City Parks and Recreation staff on the morning of Monday November 6th. See the exchange below between a friend of the parkette and city staff.

Maintenance concerns from friends of the parkette

From Helen A.:

i saw a park staff person drive thru our parkette today and do... nothing... it's true the garbage bags could probably go another week and i know that there is just a skeleton crew over the winter months, but -- is this normal -- nobody cleans up anything all winter??

From Jerzy J.:

Whom do we contact if we find large items of rubbish dumped at the parkette, like the sofa we saw yesterday, November 4th [see picture above]? Is it the "litter hot spots" number the city has, 416-39-CLEAN? (somehow this seems beyond "litter"). Or is it [city Parks and Recreation staff]?

From Jerzy J.:

Further to the enquiry I sent earlier today, I wanted to let you know that the couch that was dumped in front of the parkette has now been moved INSIDE the parkette, just behind one of the benches in the circular seating area on the Brock side of the parkette. By whom or to what end I have no clue, though, in virtue of its somewhat secluded position (below a tree and behind a bench) it makes for a great spot to consume drugs in relative comfort...

From David Chaman (Toronto Parks and Recreation)

We will be there today and we will look around for anything else that might be left. If it continues we will call the Streets to homes people as well. Thanks for the heads up.
