On Sept.9, 2009, $134,000 was allocated through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC)stimulus fund to address "state of good repair "issues in the field house. In December 2009, City Council voted to reduce or even eliminate public consultation for such projects, to move them along faster, and no consultation was planned for the MacGregor project. Park users only became aware of it because the wading pool staff noticed some people with clipboards meeting outside of the field house in August 2009.
On Sept.9, 2009, $134,000 was allocated to fix up the MacGregor Park Field house, through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada RInC stimulus fund. The word began in April and was supposed to be finished by the first week of June. But there were various unexpected delays. This is the second bulletin, produced By CELOS*, to updated park users on the progress of the remaining work to be done.
Last Year Park users found out that the city was planning to throw out the good, solid windows of MacGregor Field House during a $134,000 "state of good repair" Stimulus Fund renovation. It was clear that the windows and the screen needed only to be cleaned and have the paint removed, so park users asked City staff to keep them. The project coordinator sent back this "scope of work description:
"Windows and security screens to be refurbished [instead of new]."
Despite repeated requests to remove the dysfunctional window screens (heavy, dark screens that don't allow the windows to open properly), there was no reaction from city staff. So CELOS made this poster about windows in park buildings, and sent it to the staff. CELOS also sent it (and some capital budget questions) to the election candidates, asking for their comments.
